Volunteers Wanted at the Downingtown Area Senior Center

The Center’s director Ken Schreffler wants your help finding volunteers for key roles in their ongoing work serving area seniors. Spread the word!  The Center is now recruiting energetic individuals for the following volunteer roles:

Food Bank Distribution - 10am every Wednesday. Tasks include setting up portable tables, unloading the Food Bank truck (sometimes up to 50 lbs. lifting), sort the fresh produce, bag the individual portions, and arrange it all inside for distribution to our seniors.

Food Rescue with Wawa - Collect unsold goods from the Wawa next door and divide into brown-bag portions for our seniors’ breakfast!  If you have limited time, this may be right. Takes approximately 30 minutes, mornings after 8:30am. (Requires lifting up to 50 lbs.)

Social Media Marketing (student intern – communications, marketing, English or journalism are all ideal) - Help boost awareness of the Center to the community through social media. Plan and implement outreach on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other channels, optimize our search engine presence, manage press releases, and similar duties as assigned.  Leverage skills you’ve honed in time management, organization, and communication. Exploit your knowledge of digital media and Internet presence maintenance.

Volunteer Coordinator - Play a vital role in the Center by developing and driving the Volunteer Management Program and supporting the individuals who will lend their time, expertise and spirit to us for the benefit of the seniors we all serve. Find, engage, cultivate and inspire volunteers from the Center and the surrounding community. Coach our Center staff to train and motivate volunteers.

To get started, contact director Ken at 610-269-3939 ext101. The Downingtown Area Senior Center is located at 983 East Lancaster Avenue.
